NYC's Village Halloween Parade may be an 'attractive threat': NYPD bulletin
GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan -- The annual Village Halloween Parade in New York City may be an "attractive target" despite the lack of a specific, actionable threat, according to an NYPD bulletin obtained by ABC News.
With tens of thousands of participants expected and more than a million spectators, the annual parade is fun but the police will be watching for potential threats.
Expect to see record numbers of NYPD officers along the route as a precaution.
The police noted the particular challenge of identifying potential threats because all the participants are in costumes and masks.
"A variety of violent extremists and malicious actors may view the Village Halloween Parade as an attractive target for acts of violence and/or disruption, especially during a period of ongoing domestic and geopolitical flashpoints," the document said.
Thousands of New Yorkers in costumes are expected to attend the 52nd annual Village Halloween Parade.
The parade starts at 7 p.m. at Canal Street and Sixth Avenue and goes up to 15th Street.
