USGS reports minor earthquake near Gladstone, New Jersey
GLADSTONE, New Jersey (WABC) -- A minor earthquake was reported near Gladstone, New Jersey, on Friday morning.
The United States Geological Survey reported the 1.8-magnitude event just before noon.
There have been no reports of damage or injuries so far.
An Office of Emergency Management report on the state's website says earthquakes are most likely to occur in the northern part of the Garden State.
That's the region where significant faults are located, the report shows.
However, officials noted that earthquakes can occur in many other parts of the state.
It was nearly one year ago that a 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck New Jersey and was felt across the region.
It happened around 10:23 a.m. on April 5, 2024.
It was centered between the towns of Whitehouse Station, Califon and Lebanon. That is about 45 miles west of New York City.
The U.S. Geological Survey figures indicated that over 42 million people might have felt the rumbling across the northeast.
