WASHINGTON HEIGHTS (WABC) -- Police have arrested an extremely tall man in connection with a rape Tuesday in upper Manhattan.

Jean Rodriguez, 23, of Bronx, N.Y., has been charged with rape, burglary, menacing, sexual abuse and criminal sexual act.

TIM FLEISCHER REPORTS:

Authorities released surveillance of the suspect lingering in the lobby of the 20-year-old victim's building when she entered around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in Washington Heights. They reportedly got on the elevator at the same time and exited on the same floor, heading in opposite directions.

After the victim had entered her residence, there was a knock at the door. When she answered, police said an attacker pushed his way into the apartment and raped her.

The suspect then fled the building on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.

"We keep watch on everything," said Milton Cohen, an area resident. "We know everybody in the neighborhood. That's why it never happens around here."
