September 11 remembrance ceremony in NYC honors victims killed 25 years ago

NEW YORK (WABC) -- This year marks 25 years since the 9/11 terror attack, and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum will hold its annual commemoration ceremony to remember the victims.
Families of victims will gather for the ceremony on the 9/11 Memorial Plaza to read aloud the names of the 2,983 men, women, and children killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks and the February 26, 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
Six moments of silence will mark the times when each of the World Trade Center towers was struck, when each tower fell, and the times corresponding to the attack at the Pentagon, and the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
A new seventh moment of silence will be observed at the conclusion of the reading of the names, and will be a permanent part of the annual ceremony.
The recognition comes as more than 9,000 people have now died from 9/11-related illnesses, nearly three times the number killed on September 11 itself, according to the World Trade Center Health Program.

A complete list of the names of the 2,983 victims of the 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93, along with the victims of the 1993 WTC bombing that are inscribed on the Memorial can be found on the memorial's website.

At 7:00 p.m., a one-hour special edition of ABC News Live "Prime" from ground zero, hosted by "World News Tonight" Sunday and "Prime" anchor Linsey Davis and WABC-TV anchors Sade Baderinwa and Mike Marza, will air on Channel 7, ABC 7 New York, ABC News Live, Disney+, Hulu and ABC Owned Television Stations livestreams.
That will be followed by "9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan," a one-hour ABC News multiplatform live special at 8:00 p.m. on Channel 7 and wherever you stream ABC 7 New York, as well as across ABC, Disney+, Hulu, National Geographic, ABC Owned Television Stations livestreams and ABC News Live. "World News Tonight" anchor David Muir, "Good Morning America" co-anchor Robin Roberts and anchor Diane Sawyer will lead the broadcast live from New York City.
The special, produced in collaboration with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, will honor the victims killed, reflect on the lasting impact of September 11 and commemorate the resilience of the survivors, families, first responders and communities forever changed by the attacks.
Culminating in the iconic public art installation "Tribute in Light," which has illuminated the New York City skyline every 9/11 since the attacks, the special seeks to create a moment for families across the city and country to remember, learn and be inspired together.
"Today, 100 million Americans are too young to remember 9/11 themselves. This special will reach across generations to commemorate, educate, and inspire - and to uphold our promise to never forget," said Beth Hillman, president and CEO of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

Tribute in Light, the two beams of light that evoke the memory of the Twin Towers, is a commemorative public art installation first displayed on the six-month anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Since then, Tribute in Light, presented in partnership with Con Edison, has appeared in the night sky each 9/11 to honor those killed and shine a light on the unbreakable spirit of New York.
Buildings and landmarks throughout New York and across the country are invited to light their facades in blue from dusk to dawn on September 11.
