Police body cam captures rescue after seaplane makes 'hard landing' in East River

EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- A harrowing rescue was caught on police body cam after a seaplane made a hard landing Sunday afternoon in the East River.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch posted video of the rescue to social media on Monday.

"Whether it's on land, in the air, or on the water, the NYPD is there for every emergency," Tisch said in the post.

The seaplane made a hard landing near the NY Skyport at East 23rd Street and FDR Drive around 12:01 p.m. on Sunday.

Eight passengers were removed from the plane by FDNY and NYPD Harbor units. Two passengers were treated for minor injuries.

One passenger, Ada Todd, 75, told Eyewitness News from the hospital that she remain "in shock, in lots of pain, but happy to be alive."

"I was just walking to the end and I just see the sea plane flapping in the water," Steve Grodewald said.

According to the FAA, "the pilot of a Kodiak 100 seaplane made a hard landing...causing a wing strut to snap."

There are reports the sea plane was coming from East Hampton.

Weather conditions were not ideal on Sunday. The NTSB is now investigating the hard landing to determine why the seaplane was not able to make a smooth touchdown.
