NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's taken two decades, but an Asian-American cast is dominating in prime time! After a strong premiere on ABC, "Fresh Off the Boat" returns tonight!
The show is based on chef Eddie Huang's best-selling memoir of the same name. It's a hilarious look at the lives of immigrants in America, specifically in the 1990's.
If you like ABC's "The Goldbergs" which takes place in the 1980's, this family sitcom will appeal to you.
In the 1990s, Eddie, a hip-hop-loving 11-year-old, relocates with his parents and two brothers to suburban Orlando from the Chinatown section of Washington, D.C.
Actor Randall Park plays Louis, Eddie's father who is pursuing his American dream by opening a western-themed restaurant named Cattleman's Ranch Steakhouse.
Constance Wu plays Eddie's mother "Jessica Huang". She is struggling to fit in with the "moms" on the block while helping her three boys adjust to a new school in a new city.
"Fresh Off the Boat" is the first Asian-American television situation comedy since 1994 (Margaret Cho's "All American Girl").
Coming up this week, Eddie's gets a crush on a much older neighbor and wants her to be his girlfriend so he can get some respect and fit in with the other guys at school.
Don't miss it tonight at 8 p.m. on ABC!
