Tiempo 8/17/25: Standby guardianship for immigrants, Newark schools

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- Today on "Tiempo," immigrant families weigh emergency temporary legal custody of their children amid Trump's immigrant crackdown, plus Newark school superintendent Roger Leon talks academic innovation.

Minerva Perez is Executive Director of OLA Of Eastern Long Island, a non-profit holding workshops to explain the processes behind legal options such as standby guardianship.

Perez joins Joe Torres to explain how OLA is helping immigrant families navigate legal hurdles and protect their children during a tumultuous time.

Plus, superintendent Roger León is the first Latino to lead the school district in New Jersey's largest city, Newark, which has a growing Latino population.

León joins Joe Torres to talk through some of the programs and directives that he launched to increase academic innovation for thousands of students despite a national shortage of teachers.
