NEW CASSEL, Long Island (WABC) -- Family, friends and local leaders organized a special birthday bash on Long Island for Dorothy Baker, who turned 100 years old on Friday!
Baker has been a resident of New Cassel for nearly 60 years and she is still an active and vocal member in her community.
Whether it was the local Civic Association or simply keeping politicians honest over the years, Baker said time really flies.
"Seemed like yesterday my mother was talking to me and I was saying to her, 'Oh I'll be glad when I'm 21 years old' and next thing I know, I'm 100 years old!" Baker said.
Baker moved here to New Cassel in 1968.
Her 93-year-old friend Julia Reid was already here and still is.
"Women couldn't get mortgages. So our husbands had to have decent jobs," Reid said.
For Baker, who still votes, she's always been very feisty and say her key is never get too judgy.
"I believe there is good in everybody. I do. God made us all and he didn't make no junk, they say, you know?" Baker said.
