MOTT HAVEN (WABC) -- Police arrested an armed teenager who tried to run from officers in the Bronx Saturday night.
Authorities say officers from the 40th Precinct and a Housing Unit responded to a report of multiple gunshots heard in the vicinity of 140th Street and Cypress Avenue in the Mott Haven section around 9 p.m.
When they arrived, they spotted a young male with a gun who reportedly took off in the direction of Bruckner Blvd and 138th Street when he saw the officers.
They gave chase and caught up with him, and police say he pointed his weapon in a "menacing way" in direction of one of the officers.
Police say a second officer then convinced the teen, identified as 17-year-old Raymond Leonardo, to surrender and drop his weapon.
Leonardo complied without further incident.
A 357 revolver with six empty shell casings was recovered, and Leonardo was arrested and charged with menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
Despite other reports, police say the teen never fired nor attempted to fire at the officers, and no shots were fired by the officers. No one was injured, and the shots that were initially fired were never fired in the direction of a person.
