NEW YORK (WABC) -- The Duke and Duchess of Sussex ditched the West Coast for a trip to New York City.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle started their day with a visit to the One World Observatory with Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Kathy Hochul.

The mayor and governor walked Harry and Meghan out in front of the large windows overlooking Manhattan. Mayor de Blasio was accompanied by First Lady Chirlane McCray and their son, Dante.

"It's wonderful to be back" in New York City, Meghan Markle said.

"Really thrilled to have these wonderful guests. Particularly thrilled about the work they are doing. Really,so important for our whole country and our whole world," Mayor de Blasio said.

Harry and Meghan wore all black, likely reflecting the somber reason for their visit. Mayor de Blasio's twitter account suggested the visit was to pay tribute to Sept 11th victims.

The royal couple is in New York to make an appearance at Saturday's "Global Citizen Live" event, as part of their continued work to advocate for global vaccine equity.

This trip marks their first public events since the birth of their daughter Lilibet Diana in June. They are also parents to son Archie, 2.
