New York Yankees activate Gary Sanchez, Jordan Montgomery off COVID-19 injured list

The New York Yankeesactivated catcher Gary Sanchez and left-hander Jordan Montgomery from the COVID-19 injured list on Tuesday.

Both started Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox, a 5-3 Yankees win.

Montgomery (4-5, 3.77 ERA) allowed three earned runs and struck out six over 4 innings but did not factor into the decision.

Sanchez, hitting seventh in the lineup, went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. For the season, he's batting .214 with 17 homers and 39 RBIs in 85 games. He was placed on the COVID-19 injured list on Aug. 5.
