Sandy Kenyon reviews 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'
Entertainment reporter Sandy Kenyon has the latest details.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- One of the most anticipated films of the year hits theaters this weekend, but is "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" worth the hype?

As we head into the holiday season, we're also headed back to long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away.

"Rogue One" is the name the rebels give to a spaceship they've captured from the Empire they are battling, with the fight led by a strong young woman named Jyn, played by Felicity Jones.

Her father was taken away by the Empire many years before to develop the well-known Death Star.

Sandy Kenyon has a look at the excitement surrounding the opening of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'.

Jyn was raised by Forest Whittaker's character, and now it is time for her to align with the other rebels to try and stop the planet-destroying weapon.

A rag-tag team of rebels heads out, accompanied by a fun robot named K-2SO. The droid and lead characters are new, but Darth Vader and other familiar characters make cameo appearances to remind everyone that what happens in the film takes place just before events in the original "Star Wars" from 1977.

Officially, this is a "Star Wars story" and not part of the series as "The Force Awakens" was last year. But "Rogue One" is actually preferable to that magnum opus, and Felicity Jones and her colleagues should be celebrated for breathing new life into the franchise.

The force is definitely with this movie.
