1-year-old girl fatally struck by truck in Queens
Darla Miles reports from East Elmhurst.

EAST ELMHURST, Queens (WABC) -- A 1-year-old girl was fatally struck by a pickup truck in East Elmhurst, Queens, on Thursday night.



It happened at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and 94th Street just after 9 p.m.



Police officers patrolling area were first at the scene of crash and rushed toddler and her mother to Elmhurst Hospital where the child died.



"I hear like a loud crunch, and I hear the brakes register with the truck, and it stops and I hear her yelling, 'You ran over my baby, you ran over my baby!' and I immediately ran back, and two other gentlemen ran up and you know we tried to see if there was anything we could do for the baby but the baby was in pretty bad shape," said Reece Fluellen, a witness.



"There was a lot of blood all over the baby, all over the floor, it was really bad and the mother she picked up the baby," said Leo Guerrerro, a witness said. "The guy come out from the truck, and I see his reaction, he start to cry right away because he didn't know what he hit."



The vehicle stayed at the scene.



There is a police investigation underway.
