NYACK, New York (WABC) -- All lanes of the Tappan Zee Bridge have been reopened following construction work.
The three right lanes on the northbound side of the bridge were supposed to be closed overnight Friday until 2 p.m. Saturday, then again for several hours Saturday night into Sunday.
The closures were needed because crews were working near the Rockland shoreline underneath the existing bridge with 75-foot piles. They were driven into the riverbed where the new span ties into the footprint of the current roadway.
But late Saturday morning, the project communications director said that work was done for the weekend. "Tappan Zee Constructors completed its work well ahead of schedule. We began reopening northbound/westbound lanes on the Tappan Zee Bridge at 10 a.m. No further lane closures on the bridge are required this weekend."
Three lanes were cleared by 11 a.m. Saturday, and the remaining lane was cleared by 11:30 a.m.
Tappan Zee lanes all reopened for rest of weekend
