EDISON (WABC) -- Authorities are working to clear the scene of a tractor trailer accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in Edison.

At about 1:15 p.m., state police received a call of a tractor trailer on its side, but by the time first responders arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

The driver is conscious and alert with a laceration to his arm, according to police.

A nearby overpass was shut down due to the smoke condition and all southbound outer lanes of the Turnpike were closed in the area near Exit 10.

Only the right southbound lane has reopened.
