PHOTOS: Alex Trebek -- and his mustache -- through the years

Tuesday, July 21, 2015
Alex Trebek is pictured circa 1984, around the time he started hosting the show. He quickly became known for his dinstict hair and mustache.
As the hair became more refined, so did the mustache, as shown in this 1988 photo.
Though Trebek is often seen donning dapper suits, he occasionally dresses down, as seen in this 1989 photo with Donald Duck.
Trebek has also been known to sport large, round bifocals. They made him one of the most intellectual-looking guests at the People's Choice Awards in 1995.
As Trebek grew older, he held tight to the mustache and glasses look.
In his final months as a mustachioed man, Trebek received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The turn of the century saw a new look for Trebek, as he shaved off his most famous facial feature.
Some fans thought the 'stach may make a return, but eventually the clean face grew on them. Trebek is seen here at the 2003 National Geographic Bee.
When the show celebrated its 5000th episode in 2006, Trebek kept with the look modern audiences have now come to expect.
He stayed clean-shaven throughout several iconic moments in ''Jeopardy!'' history, like the run of champion Ken Jennings and his face-off with an IBM computer in 2011.
Then one fine day in September 2014, ''Jeopardy!'' fans everywhere were treated to the return of a long-lost look: the incomparable Trebek mustache.
The comeback was glorious but short-lived. As he celebrates his 75th birthday, Trebek shows that he can age gracefully -- even without the mustache.
