WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Shahvar family has been serving family-style meals to families all over the Bay Area for more than 30 years. For more than 30 years, David and Debbie Shahvar have poured their efforts into good-quality dishes at a family-friendly price.
"I would rather make less money and give my customers the comfort that they can come here, and it will not be too expensive for them. Rather than making another dollar or two, we can go a long way together," said David Shahvar, Owner of Buttercup Diner.
Buttercup has come a long way. Multiple locations in Oakland, Vallejo, Concord, and Walnut Creek help them reach their goal of quality food at an affordable price. It has also allowed David and Debbie to step back and pass the business to their children.
"I think their vision was, there was not a middle spot between fast food and fine dining, where you could get good quality food that a family can afford," added Jonathon Shahvar, Co-Managing Partner, Buttercup Diner.
Jonathon, Ben and Jessica are the next in the Shahvar family to take over the business from their parents. The siblings each have their responsibilities to carry on the Buttercup tradition.
"We work really well together, especially my brothers and I, my parents have taken a step back. Its challenging and rewarding at the same time. It came down to, do I want to help somebody else or do I want to help my family? The choice was pretty easy," said Jessica Shahvar, Chef, Buttercup Diner.
Each Buttercup Diner has its own unique atmosphere and vibe. The hope is to carry it on for 30 more years and beyond.
