Woman charged in death of ex-cop

Suspect has not been seen in months
NEWARK Adriana Jaramillo, who authorities believe is 40 years old, was also charged Tuesday with practicing medicine without a license out of a home in Rahway.

The manslaughter charge carries a maximum 30-year prison sentence.

The charges stem from the death of Olga Arroyo on Nov. 21, 2007. An autopsy report said Arroyo's death was caused by an adverse reaction after being injected with silicone and lidocaine by Jaramillo.

According to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow, Jaramillo may have injected Arroyo with twice the recommended amount of lidocaine for someone of Arroyo's size. In addition, he said, Jaramillo left the house and didn't return after Arroyo began to feel ill.

Arroyo was found unconscious at the home and died a short time later. Jaramillo has not been seen since, Romankow said.

The 41-year-old Arroyo was a former Newark police officer who had been working as an assistant to Newark Police Director Garry McCarthy. She was forced to retire from active police duty following an on-duty automobile accident in the late 1990s, officials said.
