Early morning truck fire on NJ Turnpike

Toll collectors temporarily placed in a tunnel

A truck carrying gas cylinders caught fire on the New Jersey Turnpike in Elizabeth Friday morning. Police say the truck, carrying either propane or oxygen tanks, caught fire about 300 feet from the Interchange 13A toll plaza just after 8:30 a.m.

Firefighters and hazardous materials crews quickly rushed to fight the flames.

Officials say no injuries were reported.

Toll collectors were temporarily placed in a tunnel underneath the toll plaza at Interchange 13A for their safety.
