Turnpike, GSP gas to spike Friday

NEW JERSEY The price of a gallon of regular gas will be $3.39 at stations along the two roadways, up from $3.17.

Gas is cheapest along the Turnpike and Parkway because their service areas, by law, can only change the price of gas once a week.

That has shielded motorists from fluctuations driving pump prices into record territory.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority surveys 100 gas stations, located off the highway, every Wednesday and Thursday to determine an average price. The service area per-gallon cost cannot be more than 3 cents above that average price.

The $3.17 per gallon price is currently the cheapest in the state.
