Shots fired in Chelsea

Police search for suspects

The occupants of two SUVs fled following a shootout, during which one person may have been hit, that ended with a crash in Chelsea. The unknown persons in the two SUVs opened fire on each other as they drove on West 16th Street, between Sixth and Seventh avenues, at around 4:30 a.m. according to police.

Residents heard at least six shots fired.

Police say the vehicles crashed, and the occupants fled the scene.

One of the occupants was holding his stomach as he fled, and he may have been hit by the gunfire.

None of the suspects were apprehended.

Authorities were conducting a canvas of nearby hospitals looking for victims. It was not known what sparked the shooting
