Mahler saw Barisic was wearing his $200 North Face jacket outside the bar. When Mahler confronted Barisic, he and other men allegedly attacked, chipping his front tooth, fracturing his nose, dislocating his shoulder and giving him a black eye.
Eyewitness News is told Mahler went to the Rutgers Web site and was able to confirm Barisic's identity as one of his attackers.
Barisic was arrested May 2 in New Brunswick. He was charged with robbery and aggravated assault. He is being held at Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $50,000 bail, officials say.
Barisic, a member of Rutgers' mens' soccer team, led the squad in scoring last fall with 10 goals, including three game-winners. He played in all 19 games during his rookie season.
