The man was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police say there were no signs of criminality.
The Staten Island Advance identified the victim as Fred Bunnicelli.
Witnesses told the newspaper that the driver of the car struck a parked van and lost control of his vehicle, striking the man before jumping the curb and knocking over a stop sign.
"He was busted up," tractor-trailer driver James Stathem told the Advance. "He was in very bad shape."
The woman was treated and released. Her identity has not been released.
