Officer John De Cando is a Hometown Hero because of his work saving the lives of our furry and feathered, two- and four-legged friends. As Paterson's Chief Animal Control Officer, Officer De Cando does not see his job as work, but rather, as a true animal lover, it is his passion. Officer De Cando has even gone so far as to risk his own life going to the aide of many abused and abandon animals. Officer De Cando's efforts to investigate cases of animal abuse have also gone above and beyond the call of duty. This past spring, during the investigation of a particularly bad case of animal abuse, Officer De Cando took the initiative to have an eyewitness to the abuse sit with a forensic sketch artist for hours in order to produce the first-ever sketch of a suspected animal abuser. In addition to the sketch, Officer De Cando has also distributed flyers and even obtained local TV and newspaper coverage in his efforts to find the culpable party.

Chief Animal Control Officer John De Cando is truly a Hometown Hero for his work in protecting the rights of animals, and our furry and feathered friends can rest assured that they will always have a knight in shining armor as long as they have John De Cando.
