Fiery end to high-speed chase

LINDENHURST The teenage suspect failed to pull over when a Suffolk County Police DWI team attempted to pull him over on South Fifth Street just before 2:30 a.m.

Police chased the vehicle north on South Fifth Street, but broke off the pursuit when they lost the car in the residential neighborhood.

As the car sped through the neighborhood, the driver lost control. The vehicle careened through a fence and into the front of a house.

The crash severed a power line on the house, sparking a fire that was quickly extinguished.

The driver, reportedly a 17-year-old boy, fled the scene on foot. K-9 units tracked the teen down, and he was placed under arrest.

Charges against the driver are pending.
