Feds charge NYPD officer with laundering

NEW YORK Yaniris Balbuena did not enter a plea to conspiracy charges during an appearance Friday in a Manhattan court. She was released on $200,000 bond.

Prosecutors say the 31-year-old patrol officer was the longtime girlfriend of a drug trafficker in the Bronx who died last year.

They say bank records show that she deposited the money into nine bank accounts in amounts that were beyond her means as a police officer.

Balbuena, who joined the force in 2000, made a maximum $59,500 a year in salary. She's been suspended from the force.
