Police officer caught apparently sleeping

PARSIPPANY, N.J. Now, someone turned the camera on the cops and what they found has angered some residents here.

The video has become a potential embarrassment for Parsippany police. Posted on YouTube for the world to see, the video shows one of the township's police officers allegedly fast asleep while he's on duty.

Two teenagers shot the video. They call themselves Asad and Josh on YouTube.

The officer was posted at the intersection of North Beverwyck Road and Lake Shore Drive on Sunday. At the time, the traffic light wasn't working properly.

The police cruiser was parked at a gas station with lights flashing and the officer allegedly dozing.

"Our tax dollars at work," one resident said.

Some residents aren't happy about what they're seeing.

"It distresses me a bit. I always thought we had a pretty decent police force," another resident said.

The department's Internal Affairs unit is investigating.

In a statement, Parsippany Police said their department "takes all complaints of officer misconduct seriously. A thorough investigation is being conducted."

What may have started out as a joke could cost the officer his job.
