SUFFOLK COUNTY One of the stores raided was the Shirley deli, whose owner was recently hailed as a hero for showing mercy to a would-be robber. (READ STORY)

The deli owner's store was raided Tuesday night. He was accused of selling illegal drug paraphernalia, including pipes, bongs and hookahs, in his store. The charges against him are civil, not criminal.

One of the Brookhaven retail outlets is across the street from a local high school.

The store in Huntington Station is a block away from a methadone clinic.

A company official and one employee of the corporation Gotham Smokes with store locations in Middle Island and Huntington Station face weapons possession charges. Police said illegal gravity knives and daggers were confiscated at those locations.
