Police chase, shooting in Newark

NEWARK Police were apparently in pursuit of a silver BMW that matched the description of a vehicle wanted in connection with at least one armed robbery. This all happened at the intersection of Seymour and Avon Avenue around 5:30 this morning.

Eyewitness News is told police attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop at which time the suspects led police on a vehicle pursuit that ended in a collision with police at the intersection.

Four suspects fled the scene of the accident, one of whom pointed a firearm at police at which time police fired at the suspect.

Police do not know whether any of the suspects was struck by gunfire, however, two possible suspects have been caught by police neither of whom were struck by gunfire.

The officers involved did suffer minor non life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident.

No other injuries have been reported.
