"They've always been part of America's culture," the Gap's Patrick Robinson said. "Part of how we grew up and how America approached the world."
And so Patrick Robinson, head designer at the Gap, has made it his mission to overhaul the company's line of jeans.
"We retrained our factories, bought new fabric and denim, because we found our costumers wanted that," he said. "They were educated and really wanted a premium jean
The just released premium jeans collection comes in endless styles and washes and is affordable at just $60.
Catherine Hart has also mastered the age old dilemma of fit, with her line appropriately called "Hello Skinny Jeans."
"Figuring out how to make your thighs look slimmer and lift the butt, and that's what everyone wants," she said.
She's used every trick in the book, including moving the seams a bit to create an optical illusion.
"When the seam is very forward on the leg, it looks like less real estate on the front of the leg," she said.
And designers are getting creative when it comes to the classic cotton. Another new look at New York and Company once again proves denim stands the test of time.
