This year the sights and sounds of the new school year in Newark began before Labor day.
The mayor was on hand to welcome children and parents and share some classroom inspiration on making preparations to succeed.
The school year in Newark is going to be five days longer than in previous years with the hope that more time provides more instruction and quality education.
There is a new push this school year to get parents more involved.
Safety is always a major concern. Last fall fear spread through schools because of text message threats which were unfounded. To combat any form of violence the city is prepared to beef up security.
