Fatal collision in East Village kills 1

EAST VILLAGE Newscopter-7 was live over the scene.

The two vehicles reportedly crashed at the intersection of First Avenue and East Fourth Street just before 6:30 a.m. this morning.

Police say a van, driven by a 19-year-old and eastbound on East Fourth Street, collided with a 1998 Nissan minivan, northbound on First Avenue, driven by 52 year old man.

A passenger in the minivan was rushed to Beth Israel Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The passenger was identified as 55-year-old, Jacqueline Franklin of South Ozone, Queens.

Neither of the drivers sustained life threatening injuries.

No charges were immediately filed in the crash.

However, the intersection was closed for hours as authorities investigated.
