Staten Island church scraps mosque plans

It appears a Catholic church on Staten Island is reconsidering its deal to sell a vacant convent for use as a mosque.

A community meeting drew more than 400 people in Midland Beach last week.

Many expressed concern that the mosque would attract radical elements.

The pastor at St. Margaret Mary Church now says the sale would not serve the needs of the parish.

But the buyers say he signed a contract, and that they still have a deal.
