Gay couple attacked at SI White Castle

The NYPD is investigating a possible hate crime assault against a gay couple in Staten Island.

The incident happened at a White Castle on Bay Street around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

47-year-old Luis Vieira and his partner, 39-year-old Richard Vieira were eating inside the restaurant when a large group of black young people attacked them.

They apparently yelled gay slurs and hit them in the head.

Luis found his partner Richard outside the restaurant bleeding from the head and barely conscious.

Richard was treated and later released from Richmond University Medical Center.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force confirmed that they are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
