Homeowner, Bob Nethaway's home is two doors away from the federally zoned cutoff point and he's forced to pay for insurance that's costing him $1,800 dollars a year.
After being inundated with complaints, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is now responding to those who can't afford flood insurance policies.
FEMA's plan, which begins in January. could save homeowners $1,000 dollars a year. The lower premium will be available for two years.
According to Congressman Peter King, "25,000 property owners were added to the high risk zones. It's estimated that only half have purchased flood insurance."
FEMA will begin to notify owners and insurance agencies about the change.
