Homeowner fights off would-be burglar

Police outside a home in Rye Brook, Westchester County where a homeowner turned the tables on a would-be burglar.

A Rye Brook resident fought off a suspect during a botched burglary of his home Thursday night.

The homeowner confronted the would-be burglar outside his Westview Avenue home sometime after 10:00 p.m.

A scuffle quickly ensued, and police say the resident fought off the suspect -- cracking a bottle over his head, as well as hitting him with other objects within reach.

The 28-year-old suspect fled the scene, but police arrested him nearby.

The suspect went to the hospital for treatment of lacerations to his hand and head.

He was then taken to the Rye Brook police station, where he was charged with robbery and burglary.

The suspect took the brunt of the injuries from the scuffle. The homeowner did not appear seriously hurt.
