Attempted sex assault of girl in Chinatown

The NYPD is hoping surveillance video will lead them to the suspect who attacked a young girl in Chinatown.

Police say the man in the video tried to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl in her apartment building on Hester Street Monday night.

They say the girl heard the suspect banging on the outside door of her building and let him in.

He then followed her to a stairwell where he tried to assault her.

The suspect then ran away, and the victim wasn't hurt.

The suspect is described as white man age 25-30, 5'9" tall, 175 lbs, and was last seen wearing a blue jacket, brown pants and a gray hat.

Anyone with information in regards to this sexual assault is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
