Extensive sitting and pulmonary embolism risk

As if you need another reason to get moving, a recent study in the British Medical Journal found that extensive sitting increases a woman's risk of pulmonary embolism.

That's when a substance, usually a blood clot, travels through the bloodstream and lodges in the main artery leading to the lungs.

The most at-risk group is women sitting for more than 41 hours a week outside of work.

But doctors say the increased risk of PE from sitting is relatively small.
