According to /*Suffolk County*/ police, /*Richard Hughes*/ of East Islip was behind the wheel of a 2002 Lincoln Continental that struck two pedestrians on Route 110 near Ritter Avenue in /*North Amityville*/.
The accident happened just before 6:00 Monday morning.
51-year-old Merell Jerman was pronounced dead at the scene.
18-year-old Breuton Byrd was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where he was listed in serious condition.
Hughes, 49, was charged with driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
