Coming Up: Out of the Darkness Community Walk, Oct. 16

NEW YORK But there is hope -- and help.

On Sunday, Oct. 16, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will hold an Out of the Darkness Community Walk at Old Westburty Gardens on Long Island as part of a national effort.

The walk will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Check-in time begins at 8:30 p.m. Participants can also register online through this site. Online registration will close at noon on Friday, Oct. 14. Those wishing to donate to the cause can also do so without taking part in the walk through the site.

Those taking part will be walking with thousands of people nationwide to raise money for AFSP's research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives, increase national awareness about depression and suicide, advocate for mental health issues, and assist survivors of suicide loss.

Many participants walk in memory of a loved one lost to suicide. Each walk site has its own unique remembrance activity in which walkers can participate to honor a loved one.
