Taking care of your feet during the holidays

NEW YORK

We all have our reasons for choosing to the shoes we do. For some business travelers, it's all about the fashion

"They are comfortable, and I am maybe old school. I still believe people should still dress to a certain degree when they are traveling," Debra Florence said.

While for others, it's about a lesson learned.

"I wore high heels to Europe one time, and couldn't get my feet in the shoes when I went to off to get of the plane, so I had to walk off barefoot. So, I don't do that anymore," Ginger Cavanaugh said.

No matter which type of footwear you wear, make your feet a priority.

The American Podiatric Medical Association recommends:

  • Shop for shoes later in the day since feet tend to swell during the day.

  • Break in a new pair of shoes at least a month before traveling.

  • If you're on a plane, get up and walk around at least once an hour to prevent swelling and blood clots.

  • Flex your feet, wiggle your toes and unlace your shoes.

After a long day of sight-seeing or shopping massage your feet and keep them elevated.
