Trial begins for man charged in Wesleyan killing

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.

Thirty-two-year-old Stephen Morgan's trial is set to begin Wednesday morning in Middletown, home of the small liberal arts university. His lawyer is pursuing an insanity defense to murder and other charges.

Police say the Marblehead, Mass., native killed Wesleyan junior Johanna Justin-Jinich of Timnath, Colo., at the off-campus bookstore cafDe where she worked. Authorities say Morgan wrote in his journals about killing her and going on a campus shooting spree targeting Jews.

The two apparently met while attending a summer class at New York University in 2007, when Justin-Jinich filed a harassment complaint against him for unwanted phone calls and emails.
