Haven's Kitchen highlights sustainable, healthy cooking

NEW YORK

That's just one goal of a new cooking school and specialty shop in Chelsea, and they offer classes parents will enjoy.

Ali Schneider has five kids at home, and lots of moms under her wing.

She opened Haven's Kitchen in Chelsea to share what she's learned about food, cooking and sustainability over the years. In the kitchen, students learn recipes, and better understand why certain foods are healthier than others.

Ali stocks many of those items in the front of the house, from honey to crushed tomatoes. There's even a café, and upstairs a private event space.

Some connect over coffee, others through cooking, but the classes here are nurturing.

It's approachable, whether Ali or another chef is teaching.

Ali used to teach cooking classes in her own kitchen.

Haven's kitchen is a much larger endeavor, which still feels a lot like home.
