The crash at Somerset Airport in Bedminster about 6 p.m. Friday evening left the plane, a model CH7A built in 2009, nose-down near the runway.
According to published reports, FAA spokeswoman Holly Baker says the American Champion plane was "landing for unknown reasons" when it came down short of the runway.
Assistant fire chief for the Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department reportedly says that one man had facial injuries and the other had ankle pain. One of the victims went to Morristown Hospital for treatment but the other declined medical transport.
Neither occupant was identified.
The airport is less than two miles west of Interstate 287 and less than three miles south of Interstate 78.
