Lincoln Center ballet cans live orchestra music

NEW YORK

The world famous venue has always relied upon a live orchestra to provide the music. But on Tuesday night, the music was taped for the year's first performance of the Paul Taylor Dance Company.

The company says it simply can't afford the nearly half a million dollars for three weeks required to pay the musicians.

Officials for the musicians union said it was the first time in recent memory that a renowned ballet company performed at Lincoln Center without live music.

Both of Lincoln Center's resident ballet companies - New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre - perform with live orchestras.
