Free summer meals for children in the City

July 13, 2012 12:48:48 PM PDT
No child in New York City should go hungry this summer, thanks to a program by the Department of Education.

Refrigerated trucks are now serving breakfast and lunches to kids in Orchard Beach in the Bronx and Flushing Meadows Park in Queens.

Schools chancellor Dennis Walcott reminded families in Orchard Beach on Friday about the meals for children ages 18 and under.

The meals are available at more than one-thousand locations, including parks, public housing complexes and soup kitchens.

The free meal program runs through August 31st.
