2-year-old shooting victim released from hospital

NEW YORK

Ariyanna Prince was among six people shot and had been in the hospital since Sunday.

Doctors determined that she was well enough and strong enough to continue her recovery at home.

She's walking with a limp, but she's alive and healing, and her mother is feeling relieved.

"Lucky, because she's home and I'm home," Jahlessa Westry said.

The shooting happened in Brownsville. Ariyanna was among six people shot by a suspect who sprayed gunfire around the intersection of Riverdale Avenue and Bristol Street in a drive-by shooting.

It was the latest eruption of violence in a city that has recently seen its share of senseless shootings.

Police are still looking for the suspect or suspects involved and the white Volkswagen Jetta that investigators believe they were driving.

The bullet hit Ariyanna's left leg, yet she's in good spirits.

"I feel better," she said.

Her mother says she'll make a full recovery.

"She just has to get walking and get it back," Westry said.

As for the person who shot her, her mother asks that he think about the consequences of his actions and the lives affected.
