Firefighter hurt battling Upper East Side blaze

NEW YORK

The blaze broke out on the second and third floors of a building on Lexington Avenue and East 62nd Street around 7:30 a.m.

EMS says firefighters were trying to extinguish the flames when one of them placed a mayday call at 8:45.

The firefighter was rushed to Cornell Hospital, where he was awake and alert.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
