NYPD sergeant arrested in vandalism

NEW YORK

Police say Sgt. Damaris Diaz was arrested Saturday on criminal mischief and aggravated harassment charges. She's the daughter of state Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. and the sister of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

Attempts to reach the 43-year-old sergeant and her family weren't immediately successful Sunday. The Daily News of New York says she declined to comment as she left a Bronx court Saturday night.

Authorities say she scratched her boyfriend's car with a key Friday after sending him angry text messages. She was off-duty.

Damaris Diaz has been on the police force since 1993. Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins says she has no problems on her record.
