The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says its police made five arrests and issued 25 summonses for various motor vehicle violations during a drunken driving checkpoint set up at the Jersey City entrance of the Holland Tunnel.

Port Authority spokesman All Della Fave says three motorists were charged with drunken driving, while two others were arrested after officers discovered they were wanted on outstanding warrants in New Jersey.

The checkpoint was staged from 10 p.m. Friday through about 5 a.m. Saturday.

Overall, 125 vehicles were stopped during the operation. Della Fave says summonses were issued for various violations, ranging from drivers not wearing seat belts to vehicle equipment matters.
